Polish airline LOT is reportedly close to acquiring Czech carrier Smartwings, according to media reports. While the national airline has not officially commented, such consolidation moves are becoming common across Europe. Recently, Air France-KLM confirmed interest in acquiring shares of Portugal’s TAP, and Lufthansa has already invested in several airlines in 2025. For medium-sized carriers, consolidation is increasingly seen as essential for survival in a competitive market.
